Mackinac Island Tour 2001

In 2001, my brother Eric and his wife, Shannon, came in addition to Ma with me to the island. The weather started out okay enough but it drizzled somewhat and grew really hazy, and we got totally rained out at the end!

This year I wanted to find Crack-in-the-Island and Cave of the Woods. I had a vague memory of having visited the Crack when I was little...but nobody else in the family seems to remember it! Maybe I was there in a past life or something...? O_o

In any case, we did not explore the island very much at all this year, mainly sticking to the west shore and then heading into town via Garrison Road. That rain rather spoiled things. >:/ Oh well, there's always 2002!

There are 68 digital pictures available from this tour. Twenty-seven are presented here. To view all available photos, please see this album. (Be aware that the page may take a while to load.)

The day started out pretty enough, though mildly hazy. It was windy on Lake Huron as you can see here as we started out along the west shore.

My family walking ahead of me on the boardwalk while I stopped to take a shot of the West Bluff cottages. (See the 2004 tour for info and a warning about traveling the West Bluff.)

There are all kinds of wildflowers along Lake Shore Road. Kind of weedy looking at points, but I've always been more a fan of trees than of flowers. :) (The lady in red is Ma.)

Eric and Shannon had to stop for the requisite shot inside Devil's Kitchen! ^_^ The cave seems a lot smaller when people aren't standing inside it, doesn't it?

Uh-oh. It started getting a LOT heavier and hazier the longer we walked! Still, I thought it made for interesting photography. Although there are few landmarks to be seen, there are still some scenic spots along the west shore.
