Mackinac Island Tour 2000

In 2000 we upgraded to a DIGITAL CAMERA! :D So no more lousy scans! Woot!

The 2000 trip was also a nice combination of sun and clouds, making for a great sunset. This year I was as predictable as always and visited most of the usual spots to try out the new camera. And I believe the pictures turned out much better than before...so you can enjoy them more. :)

There are also better shots of the Beaumont Memorial, the Missionary Bark Chapel, Arch Rock from below, Sugar Loaf Rock from above at Point Lookout, Watch-Your-Step Trail...and an interesting development concerning Fort Mackinac. (Remember how I told you to look at its wall back in 1999? You'll find out why here.) And on the way home we even got stuck behind the annual Parade of Lights!!

There are 171 digital pictures available from this tour. Fifty-nine are presented here. To view all available photos, please see this album. (Be aware that the page may take a while to load.)

The Mackinac Bridge, from near the ferry docks in Mackinaw City.

A nice partly sunny day in Marquette Park, where, as usual, we started out our tour.

Here is the ever-present statue of Father Marquette. He looks rather popular here, doesn't he? ^_^ Now...remember how I told you to keep your eye on that section of fort wall up just to the left of that jutting rock? Here it is. Notice how that section of wall is gray now, rather than white? Take a look at the next shot.

Here you can see it better. That big gray section of wall--just to the left of the jutting rock, and beneath the trees--is where a hunk of the fort wall collapsed just after our visit back in 1999, and tumbled down into Marquette Park. Fortunately nobody was hurt, but they needed to make repairs on the aging fort because of this. The renovations were EXTREMELY costly--estimated $4,000,000, in fact.

Here is the Missionary Bark Chapel, in better lighting! (See the 1999 tour for info on this site.)
