| Main Street, with a view of the fort in the distance. This is where you get off when you first reach the island; running parallel to it, a little bit inland, is historic Market Street where you can find many of the shops. (The girl in purple, with the blue bag, is my classmate Michelle.) |
| The view at one of the ferry docking areas. |
| One of the island's fancier horse carriages. These are to be seen EVERYWHERE you go in town. The nicer-looking ones belong to the Grand Hotel. These are pretty much what counts as a vehicle on the island, so you have to watch out when you see one of these coming. :) |
| We were REALLY fortunate in getting this picture! This here is a Mackinac Island policeman...and his cruiser! ^_^ As I like to say whenever I see this shot, can you imagine a high-speed chase on that thing? *Ding-ding!* ;D |
| The shore of Lake Huron, with the Mackinac Bridge in the distance. And...is that another seagull...?
Contrary to how it looks in this shot, the bulk of the shoreline is NOT nice and sandy--in fact just about everywhere you go it's rocky. As someone once said to me while browsing some of my photos, "You can tell it's a Great Lake--because it's all rocks!" I don't know if that's true, but it sure seems like it. ^_^ |
