The Radioactive Playground

WELCOME!

Hello and thank you for stopping by to visit my Mackinac Island site! :) My real name is Rachel but I prefer to go by the username "Tehuti." I am a native northern Michigander (Cheboygan, Lower Peninsula) and one of my favorite spots to visit is Mackinac Island, in the Straits of Mackinac--not too far from my own home, in fact. There are lots of great sites out there dedicated to this location, but I found that all of them are lacking when it comes to more out-of-the-way spots to visit on this island, and I find it frustrating that many tourists may very well miss these spots on their own visits. I felt I could provide a service to the person thinking of visiting Mackinac Island, and provide a more thorough picture of what there is to see there. So while you will still be seeing the occasional photo of Fort Mackinac, and the Grand Hotel, and the Victorian cottages on the bluffs, as well as Arch Rock and Sugar Loaf Rock and other natural formations, you will also be seeing pictures of lesser-known places such as Crack-in-the-Island, Friendship's Altar, Eagle Point Cave, and some trails that are not as heavily traveled as others. I have yet to find a site anywhere with more than perhaps one photo, if that, of such locations, so here you can look to find out more about them.

I am NOT a professional photographer, nor an expert on northern Michigan, Mackinac Island, or Michigan history or culture of any sort! I am merely a native of the area and very interested in photographing and visiting this beautiful place, and wished to share what I've found with everyone else. :) So please keep in mind that this is an amateur, PERSONAL website and I am no authority on any of the topics I mention here. I cannot recommend the best places to eat or stay at on the island; I cannot help with genealogy or history research; and I cannot gather detailed information beyond anything I've presented here. If you have any such questions which go beyond the scope of what's already on this site, I'd strongly suggest you use Google to find out more about what you're looking for. There are also some links to other Mackinac Island-related sites where you may browse around for further information. If you wish to discuss anything I've presented on this site in an informal manner, or want to merely share your own experiences with the island, please feel free to e-mail me. Please see my "Help/Info" link below for how you can help me make this a better site and me a happier person--just by sharing what you know.

Also please contact me if you see anything on this site which you feel may have been presented in error. As I said I am certainly no professional and while I did my best to make sure I got all my facts straight, there could still be some details wrong! I'd much prefer anyone with more knowledge than me to point out any errors so I may fix them. :)

One last thing. All the images on this site are copyright © in my name and may not be used without permission. These are low-resolution images; the fullsize pictures for each are available. If you should like to utilize a fullsize image for YOUR OWN PERSONAL, NONCOMMERCIAL USE (for example, as a desktop wallpaper, a printed picture for your wall, etc.), please contact me with the specific image name (you can find it by right-clicking on any image and viewing properties) and the reason why you'd like to use it and I would be more than willing to loan it to you. :) Likewise with the images in my Yahoo! albums. (These albums, where ALL photos from the different tours are located, are linked to on the tour pages themselves.)

All that having been said...hop on board the ferry now and let's go to Mackinac Island! :)
