Quick Bio.

Speaking of bio, man is it hot and nasty down here today!

My name is Dave Kellum. I was born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1965. I lived in Edmonton, Alberta, for 8 years as a kid, and I have now lived in Western Florida for about 25 years.

My wife, Trudy, and I,  have our first baby on the way, he is due in early July.  His name is Luc.  I am pretty sure that he is very handsome and extremely intelligent. I'll be positive soon.

Trudy and I spent some time in New Zealand a few years ago, while she was studying over there. Great place! I am very thankful that I had the opportunity to go.

I guess that is about it. I kind of live life in the slow lane.

Thanks so much for taking the time to look at my work. I'd love to hear what you think of it, if you feel like it, drop me an e-mail! canceramic@yahoo.com.

thanks again,

Dave

Artist Statement

My sculptures are usually daydreams, or weird thoughts turned into 70 lb., shaped lumps of clay. I am never terribly concerned with the subject matter, but very concerned about how that subject is expressed. I want my sculptures to be more of a verb than a noun. I feel that any subject can be extremely interesting after it is super-saturated with imagination and then transformed into a functional clay sculpture.

When I sculpt, I try to find and capture the same frame of mind that I went through high school with. There was nothing that could bring out the imagination and creativity in me like a chemistry class. I don't remember ever passing a chemistry class, but I do remember some of the great drawings that I penciled during those classes.

When the "Chemistry Class" mind set is successfully achieved, nothing else matters except for the art project at hand. It is a total withdrawal from the surroundings, a surrender to creativity, imagination, and focus. It is a great feeling, and an extreme high. To achieve this feeling is almost like cheating, there is no choice but to create something that I will end up being very proud of.

I hope that you enjoy my work a fraction as much as I do.
