The travels continue....

2006

December 2006

A quiet start to the month, although I did manage to have a look at the Falcated Duck @ Bowling Green Marsh RSPB, It's a smart bird and worth a look regardless of it's origins. Whilst down south I travelled across to Dorset  in hope that the Sabine's Gull was still about, thankfully after a lot of searching I found it feeding, briefly, in a bay by the harbour. The discovery of an Ivory Gull had me driving up to Scotland for the second time in as many months. I could only stay an hour before making the long journey back for  work . Thankfully I found the bird straight away as it had stayed loyal to the bay behind Greenan Castle, the weather could've been a little better though. To finish another incredible year I travelled up to Scotland yet again for the superb Ross's Gull @ Ormsary Water, Argyll and Black-throated Diver on the way home @ Gladerston Dam, Clyde

November 2006

A nice start to November, Desert Wheatear, East Sussex, a very obliging bird in a fantastic location. Another great day on the 7th with excellent views of both Little Auk & Shorelark @ Snettisham RSPB. The Astonishing discovery of a Long billed Murrelet had me dashing down to Dawlish, Devon on the 12th. Initially the bird was lost to view, however after an hour it gave stunning views in a bay just south of Dawlish railway station. The Murrelet has to be a strong contender for my bird of the year. Mid way through November and yet another Mega - Black-eared Kite @ Holbeach, Lincolnshire, I managed to get a little footage, although most of it was distant, and just when I thought it couldn't get any better a Barrow's Goldeneye is found @ Callander, Forth. I managed to see the bird on the 28th when it showed very well by the footbridge on the river Teigh. November is rapidly becoming more exciting than October for Mega's.

October 2006

A juvenile Woodchat Shrike & Short-toed lark tempted me to travel to the Great Orme Country park, Conwy. Both birds showed well, although the Lark would disappear for short spells. Heavy work commitments have prevented me from getting out much during October, however I did manage to catch up with the Hoopoe @ Leamore, Walsall, Red-flanked Bluetail @ Thorpness, Suffolk (although views were brief) Bonaparte's Gull @ Newbiggin, Northumberland and the Glossy Ibis @ Pilling, Lancashire

September 2006

A quiet month, thanks to a spell of food - poisoning ( Bl**dy Kebab's), however I did manage to get down to Cornwall for the Least Sandpiper & Wilson's Phalarope, both birds showed very well, especially the Phalarope. I stopped off at Slimbridge on the way home to film one of the three Pectoral Sandpipers on South Lake.  I was too ill for the Issy wheatear but I did manage to see the Pallid Harrier, hope it stays for the winter!
